If you have trouble viewing the video, check out the YouTube video here: The Moon transits Earth as seen by EPOXI.

In the 21st century, it's far too easy to get jaded about amazing sights. Far too many times we're exposed to spectacular explosions, glorious vistas, and incredible creatures. Which is why something like this, while seemingly simple, is more spectacular than the scenery of Rivendell, more jaw-dropping than the Battle of New Caprica, and more poignant than Contact's opening tour of the universe.

Simply because this movie is real. No computer models. No false colors. There's a man-made spacecraft out there, taking pictures of us. It's one of those still-rare moments where we get a true sense of scale.

I hope we get to see more like this.
