Anti-Typecasting

One of the most common fears that actors and actresses who feature in a sci-fi show express is the concern that after they finish their current gig, they’ll be typecast into a certain type of role. (Yeah, that’s not just in the sci-fi genre, but that’s where it seems to happen the most.) I can appreciate the need to diversify one’s acting abilities, but there’s also such a thing as going too far away from one’s type, too.

For instance, there’s this little tidbit in an article about Firefly being picked up by The Sci-Fi Channel. I’d heard a few weeks ago that Jewel Staite was going to be guest-starring on Stargate: Atlantis, but... Jewel Staite appearing as a Wraith? Egads!
